In 1963 Harvey B. Gantt became the first African American student admitted to Clemson University. This collection contains photographs of Harvey and Lucinda, who is the first African American woman to attend Clemson, as well as official university documents related to Harvey's integration fight. The internal documents detail university officials filing away or attempting to block admissions applications by Harvey and other Black students. Other documents collected are correspondence to and from university lawyers, legislators, and members of the public.
